Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for servicing plant and equipment
   • Obtain, interpret and confirm work requirements
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation required to apply service mine plant and equipment
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures according to workplace procedures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for the work activity
   • Receive, interpret and confirm shift changeover details
   • Access and apply safety information and procedures
   • Communicate and coordinate with others, to arrange preparatory activities, timing and location of servicing
   • Conduct prestart checks on the service vehicle
   • Check and top up service vehicle levels of fuel, lubricants and water
   • Identify and source replacement parts and service tools
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for emergency situations
2. Service mine plant and equipment
   • Conduct start-up, park-up and shut-down procedures on service vehicle according to workplace procedures
   • Conduct servicing of plant and equipment according to workplace procedures
   • Dispose of used oils and lubricants according to workplace procedures
   • Process written maintenance records according to workplace procedures

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

service mine plant and equipment on at least two occasions, including:

conducting prestart checks on the service vehicle

checking and topping up service vehicle levels of fuel, lubricants and water

maintaining the service bay and equipment

identifying and sourcing replacement parts and service tools

conducting start up, park-up and shut-down procedures on service vehicle

operating the service vehicle

servicing of plant and equipment

completing servicing schedule and written maintenance records.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for servicing mine plant and equipment

work effectively with others to service mine plant and equipment in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and to determine coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and documentation required to service mine plant and equipment

types, characteristics, uses, specifications and limitations of:

equipment

fuel

lubricant

filter

additives

hazardous chemical systems

principles and techniques for identifying relevant hazards and emergencies

techniques for coordinating and communicating job activities with others.
